The Louis Vuitton Icon and Iconoclasts Collection got many attention when it was announced, because of the perennially bold-faced names from the worlds of fashion and design that had signed on to participate. Louis Vuitton asked various famous fashion designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Louboutin, Rei Kawakubo, and other important innovators like architect Frank Gehry, photographer Cindy Sherman and industrial designer Mark Newson with creating artful fashion pieces using the LV signature monogram print and Damier canvas.
The rumor was that Karl Lagerfeld would make a LV punching bag in three sizes one with handbag-like straps that could also function as a regular handbag. Another for more space, a full-size punching bag and storage trunk, both covered in LV monogram canvas, are also available for an undisclosed price. To complete the sports theme, a set of boxing gloves and their weekend trip case are also part of Karl Lagerfeld’s capsule collection.
The new collection items
The most wearable items of the collection were probably the fleece-panelled bagpacks that were desgined by Apples new employee Marc Newson. Louboutin and Sherman designed colorful items with their contributions, while Kawakubo was over the top as you’d expect from her. Last but not least was the design of Gehry, which was kind of dull and architectural. You can find more information about each new designed fashion accessory at the Louis Vuitton’s website.
